It's a Good Thing To Keep An Open Mind

With a groom from Renton and a bride from Spokane, you are probably wondering where we are going to live post-wedding day. For a long time the answer has been Spokane. There are lots of good reasons: I would like to finish school here, it's affordable, and there are fabulous old Craftsman-style homes to daydream about.

So that was the plan. Max would quit his job and join me out here. Idealistic, yes, but really improbable. Spokane is a horrible place to try to find a job, and why would anyone with a job in this economy willingly quit a job he likes to move to a place where he would be lucky to get a job at Wal-Mart? Optimistic me tried to ignore all that doubt and push on all pro-Spokane, but this is the reality: Spokane ain't working for ya'.

Here is the new plan, and a small bit of compromise. I will finish out the school year in June. I will still be getting married in March. But we will be living in the Seattle area. Well for a little while I will still be in Spokane, and will see Max on the weekends. Max will be headed back to the Seattle area, and I will join him once school is out, with an Associate's Degree in Interior Design. I can either finish my schooling in Seattle, or hope that a BA in French and an AA in Art can amount to something.

Either way, I think our June reunion calls for a second honeymoon.

Navigating the Blog

Since this blog will be a resource for readers as well as fellow-revelers, I have placed some links on the side that should be helpful. On the right-hand side you will see links for: registries, local hotels, and a map to the Grange Hall. If any of the links don't function well, please let me know. Soon I will add Spokane areas of interest, in case you want to do other things in Spokane besides just attending the wedding festivities. (of course, the bridezilla in me wonders how that could be possible.)

A guest recommended arranging a group rate at one of the hotels, if you could let me know if you need a hotel room, I will try to set something up.

Two Months!!!

With two months to go we are getting more and prepared (and perhaps a little nervous) for the big day. It has been crazy trying to juggle school, work, and preparations, but it has been a fun process. I'm not trying to brag, but I am a little excited for the party. It's going to be fun...just as long as everything comes together. I must say, one of the best things about studying Interior Design while planning a wedding is that I naturally think how I am going to incorporate everything I am learning. This is especially true with the lighting design class.

The venue, an adorable and vintage Grange Hall, is perfect in every way except for the lighting situation. (It could also use some wi-fi, but that's another story.) So the test will be how we can create a good mood, despite some heavy fluorescent lighting. (I am so against that government mandate to use CFLs they are mood killers!!! and dangerous when broken...I digress...) But I've got some ideas.
